What is the Youth Innovation Studio?

The Youth Innovation Studio (YIS) is a creative hub where young minds collaborate, learn, and produce digital content that preserves history, tells meaningful stories, and builds future careers in media and technology. Created by the Jacob De Cordova Society, YIS builds on Waco’s rich legacy of entrepreneurship and innovation while preparing the next generation to carry these traditions forward.

Our Mission:

Empowering entrepreneurship with the next generation of creators through hands-on learning in film, digital media, and storytelling. The Youth Innovation Studio builds on the momentum of the Waco 175th celebrations, conserving past stories of Waco’s people and paying these lessons forward for a future where everyone benefits from youth innovation.

How Youth Innovation Studio Engages the Community

Learn

Students receive hands-on training from industry professionals in media production, digital storytelling, and emerging technologies. This includes workshops on filmmaking, podcasting, and interactive media.

Create

Participants apply their knowledge by producing meaningful digital projects, including short films, multimedia exhibits, and digital archives that capture Waco’s stories and innovation.

Impact

The completed projects become part of Waco’s digital legacy, preserved in the Time Capsule Project and shared with the community through events, exhibits, and online platforms.

Waco Time Capsule & Community Engagement:

Be part of preserving Waco’s history for future generations by contributing to the Waco Time Capsule Project. Volunteers will help collect, document, and archive meaningful stories, artifacts, and digital content that will be sealed away for decades to come. Whether you are passionate about storytelling, media preservation, or simply want to leave a lasting impact on Waco’s legacy, this project is an exciting opportunity to be involved.

Student Participants:

Are you a student interested in storytelling, media production, or history? The Youth Innovation Studio offers hands-on opportunities to learn, create, and make an impact. Sign up to work on real projects, collaborate with professionals, and gain valuable skills that will prepare you for future creative careers.

Mentors & Educators:

Are you passionate about digital media, storytelling, or technology? As a mentor, you’ll guide students through hands-on projects, sharing your expertise in filmmaking, production, editing, or history preservation. This is an opportunity to inspire the next generation of creators while shaping meaningful narratives that will be shared for years to come.

Technical Support:

Love working behind the scenes? Our technical support volunteers assist with everything from setting up camera equipment and lighting to helping with sound engineering and post-production. Whether you’re a tech expert or just interested in learning more about media production, your skills will help bring student projects to life.

General Volunteers & Event Support:

Whether you want to help coordinate events, assist with community outreach, or support day-to-day operations, there’s a place for you. Volunteers in this role will assist in organizing and managing screenings, exhibitions, and workshops while also playing a crucial role in the success of our engagement initiatives. Tasks may include setting up venues, coordinating guest experiences, managing interactive discussions, and ensuring smooth operations for all YIS projects.
